The Puerto Rican flag consists of five white and red stripes. There is a single white five-pointed star resting inside of a blue triangle on the left side of the flag. This flag was adopted as the official Puerto Rican flag on July 25, 1952 when Puerto Rico became a commonwealth. The flag represents the island of Puerto Rico and its people.
